really? everyone I ve talked to with one says they leak badly and you cannot stop the wind noises, especially in cold weather...I was gonna get one , but heard so many bad reviews , I changed my mind..the factory glass tops are over $1200.
There is some wind noise at highway speeds but it's not terrible. Leaking during car washing I didn't have much at all, driving I can't vouche for since I don't drive in rainy weather. the price of factory tops is what led me to give this a try. I have found that I use it in the winter months since in summer heat plus sun on your head it was pretty warm without A/C.
I kinda didn't care for the smoked roof next to the red paint on the car either but I'm in the process of solving that problem within the next week or so (I just keep sanding, just keep sanding lol )
Hey PalmBeach, I have a question about your Astro top. You said the smoked roof looked bad next to your red car. When I called the company they said the roof looked black from the outside. ???? So are you saying the smoked look does show from the outside??? Thanks Lawrence
Aint that the truth! but I think it might be worse in your area, at least I'm 3 miles in from the ocean and usually get a seabreeze that makes a big difference but the lat/long does it too.
going Black. I'll start another thread with pics of the keyed side and where I'm at now. I don't want to highjack this one.
cool! I love black on a C3. I repainted my 81 black about 3 years ago. To the OP, if you get the tops from AStro, let us know if they are quality..they are certainly cheaper than OEM or replicas from any of the vendors.
cwgrswld, if you want some pics of my one piece I'd be glad to post some for you. I don't know how different it might be from the T-top version but either way I would be glad to do so since the top is off at the moment. I do have a few photos of it on my car from several months ago too.
I found dealing with Astro to be a good thing. The owner came to their shop last Thanksgiving day to meet me as I had just bought a 2002 and wanted to get a glass top for it. I was driving home and that was when I would be passing by, he also spent some time adjusting the top to make sure it was the best fit posible.
He showed me their shop and tops for my 1980 as I have one cracked one. When I do replace those tops it will be with Astro
Mike
On my 2002 Vette both the factory and Astro glass top have some wind noise at speed and I would say the factory has more but neither leaks water.
The one thing the guy from Astro told me that I did not know was to keep a good coat of wax on the glass tops.

Thanks Fishslayer, I am in need of new tops and maybe this is the way to go. FYI I already have the Raincoat by Fox Ent, Inc. out of St. Charles, Il. They cost $279 and i got them from Corvette Central. They fit like a glove and are water tight. Very little wind noise at highway speeds. They only wt. about 7 lbs. and go on and off in just a few minutes once you complete the install process which takes about an hour or so. I have driven 75 on freeway and they don't come off or even get loose. Only thing is they are only for temp. use so you don't have to lug around the heavy/bulkey factory tops when you go cruising for the day and get caught in a rain storm or start getting sun burned. They fold up and take up very little space behind your seats. You also can't go thru car washes and get soap on them either. I love this website. I get so many ideas and help from ya'll. Of course i have spent more on my vette than i had planned on. Thanks again
I ll let you in on something...WE ALL SPENT MORE ON OUR CARS THAN WE PLANNED! But we would do it all over again...glad you are getting something good from the forum..keep coming
I bought a set of t-tops from Thomson Astro Tops. If this is the same company that you are talking about. I was very happy with the price. Not too happy with the service. I ordered the mirrored tops and they were out. Settled for the smoked tops. The tops are of medium quality and I am having trouble getting them to fit just right. Not satisfied with the fit at all. I called and tried to get help and got a major attitude. Will I buy from them again??? Probably not, unless I could get some help from them which wont happen since I will not call back. I'll just chalk it up as lesson learned. You get what you pay for.
My first time dealing with them I was interested in the single one for a 1980, I had a question about how they fit in the back as the pic on the web site I could not see it real good. I was transfered to tnd he shop forman and did not like his attitude or way he answered my question.
Fast forword to me buying a 2002 C5 a glass top off of them, I had the owner come in on a holiday and was a real nice guy and did a great job of adjusting the top so it fit perfect.
got the double tops, they look identicle, cant road test yet car isnt finished and we have 2ft of snow! the quality looks good, weatherstips, latches they are complete everything new and lighter just no mirror finish but i dont care!
Sorry to hear about your snow problem Please keep it up North We have had a nice winter down hear in El Paso, Tx. I drive my vette daily . I will watch for your coments as to how the t-tops worked out for you. Stay warm
keep talking, you re making me want to spend money.
