How likely is it that a lightly used C6 with 30,000 miles on it would need new wheel bearings.

What is the life span of these?

Maybe I'm paranoid, but it sounds a little noisy, not the typical screeching that really bad bearings make.

I had my local mechanic jack up the car, he turned the wheels and said they were OK. I have a breakdown insurance policy that expires next April, (never used it once), and if I need a big job, they owe me big time.

make sure you don't have a warped rotor that is rubbing.

Since they are sealed units, its doubtful that its the bearing assembly failing with only 30K miles..should last 100K or more .. More likely a brake issue like Ragtop said.. you did not say front or rear, if its rear, the Park Brake is where I would look

I had issue with wheel bearings a while ago and to isolate the bearings being bad, I just squirted the bearings with oil. If the squeal went away then it was the bearings. If the problem persisted, then the search continued. The squeal went away, and I replaced them. It was all good to go after that.

I had to change out the bearings on my left rear with less than 25k miles. Haven't had any other issues.
