Bottom line is it depends on the engine application; carb or EFI ,truck or speedway engine, even the trans and axle choice
For example , on a EFI engine ,longer duration = more valve overlap @ idle which makes stock ECM not very happy; See cam LSA http://www.compcams.com/Technical/FAQ/LSAproperties.asp
hence why you see " computer compatible" camshafts available
excellent article on cam design..explains how Lobe Seperation Angle is key to making power... the application is the most important thing..a great cam on the wrong motor or combination is useless....matching all components will give the best result
