repainting my black valve covers with the aluminum fins. they are sandblasted and i polished the fins. my question is, do i paint the covers and remove the paint off the fins with paint remover or sand off. or do i tape the fins?

I've seen some actually use Vaseline instead of tape
either way , masking is easier that removing

i paint then with a folded clean rag wet but not soaked with laquer thinner wipe the fins right after you spray, no smoking please

why can't you do it if you put on ten coats, if you do it after each coat?

I guess you could but wouldn't any residual thinner affect the new paint ?
