Transmission rebuild!

1768 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  EArkwell94
Alright, so my shifter stopped moving and got stuck in park, so being an aggressive moron I forced it and now I can move the shifter willy nilly easily but every gear is forward, (reverse, park, neutral) everything! :479: So I ordered a B&M transkit for rebuilding it (PN 30229). Anyone got any tips/warnings, anything at all? Never rebuilt a transmission so it should be interesting. Wish me luck!

It sounds like you have simply bent or broken the shift cable that connects the shifter to the lever on the side of the transmission.
I agree with that, but I am more rebuilding it for the fact of not shifting at all before I forced it. It was very odd to say the least

The TH350's are very easy to overhaul. I just overhauled one in my '73 pickup about 6 months ago. Buy a Haynes manual and it'll lead you thru the process step-by-step with excellent pictures. You'll need to fabricate a couple of simple tools to compress the spring packs or you can buy them from any transmission parts supply house.

It's always best to replace the pump gears as the drive gear's tangs get damaged from the torque converter tangs turning it. The gears come in a matched set and come in different thicknesses so bring your old gears with you (or measure their width with a micrometer). I think they come in 3 different thicknesses.
