Where can you reduce C6 weight? What parts of the car can be changed or simply removed and still maintain drive-ability?

I have run a few posts on the subject. I'm building a track only car, from a 2002 C5 Z06. It weighs 3,100 OEM and the track car will weight about 2,550 when done.

Unless your building a track (RR) car, trying to lighten your car up is a waste of time. It won't change the performance and is expensive. The ways to get significant weight out of a car aren't going to be attractive for a streetable car:

Remove all interior ****pit materials down to bare metal, remove headlights, air bags, heater core, A/C system, replace front/rear windshield with lexan, remove side windows, new racing rims, carbon fiber body parts......

Sound like something you want to get involved with? That's what required to get a car down to racing weight.

Suggest you spend $$ on fun street mods instead. Good luck.

Appreciate your help Tom, I have looked around and noticed there are Carbon Fiber hoods, fenders and Quarterpanels. If I replaced all these parts what sort of weight reduction you estimate?

So when are we going to see some new pics of your track car you are building?

According to Kerry you can probably save about 80 lbs by replacing all the qtr panels, hood...You can also save about 45 lbs by removing the roof A and B pillars and the steel above and replacing with carbon fiber roof. That would normally require a roll cage to replace the oem roof support for safety reasons.

Bottom line: You could easily spend $12,000+ to save 80 lbs, which will have zero impact on the cars performance on the street.

I wouldn't worry about weight.

As for my car, below is a link to work done before the new year. We are presently fabricating the 10 pt roll cage and will shortly be installing the suspension and brake systems.

Good luck.
