If your distributor still uses breaker points I highly recommend converting it to a Pertronix or ACCEL points eliminator. They're not that expensive and they totally eliminate the wear on the upper bushing that causes the dreaded "spark scatter" you often read about in automotive forums. I even converted my 1952 TO-30 Ferguson tractor to a Pertronix. The Pertronix requires a full 12 volts so you'll need to bypass the braided resistance wire and use a 12 or 10 gauge wire connected to the ACCY terminal of your fuse block.
