Ever since I installed my push button fuel bowl priming switch and set my choke housing to -0- my choke has worked perfectly; now 7 days in a row. I give it two pumps, turn the key, and it instantly starts and goes directly to a 1200 to 1500 rpm fast idle. So it appears the nearly empty fuel bowls were most of the cause of the erratic choke operation.

The choke butterfly did need to be modified to allow a leaner mixture to eliminate the "chugging" but the main cause was the almost empty fuel bowls. I'll probably have to set the choke a bit richer for winter starts.
