I just happened to have my hood off to make a modification to my Ram Air hood plate so I decided to snap a few more pictures of the engine offset. I had noticed my alternator's fan was making contact with the hood plate so I removed the hood so I could cut another hole in my hood plate for additional clearance.

The tape measure pictures show the distance from the air cleaner stud to the left then right fenders.

If you look closely you can see the engine is also skewed to allow the driveshaft to go through the tunnel and even then it favors the right side of the tunnel.

Because of their additional widths the big blocks BARELY fit in the chassis. My '82 is very nimble in turns but my '71 with its big block handles like a Greyhound bus because of its 200+ pounds of additional weight.
