ok got a question and maybe I am just searching under the wrong name or something.

ON the 80 vette body there is a body mount in front of the rear wheel /behind the passenger seat I believe this is #3 . I am talking about the one in the actual body of the car (not on frame) mine is completely rusted out gone ain't there no more!! there is actual a hole all the way back in the upright part behind the passenger seat:crybaby:

I have tried searching the forum, goggle, youtube, checking the haynes manual (that's a joke) looking in a 1978 assembly manual I just got with no luck. I did find some of the catalog sell what I believe is the correct part to replace it they just don't tell me how to do it:doh:

It's probably simple but I am baffled please some tell me HOW DO I REPLACE THIS body mount? directions links to post that speak about it , videos or even page numbers in a assembly manual would be of great help as I will be staring the body fairly soon.

Hi Goldhunter;
Had to do the same on my 75 (both sides rusted away) Those mounts need to be welded on. The bottom of the original mount was so gone I had to make a replacement of flat stock steel, hole drilled for the body mount and then welded in place. Then I had to weld the mount to the body where the steel support is located on the body and then welded to the new steel base. A real P.I.T.A. I bought mine from Volunteer Corvette Parts, fits 68-82. Have fun...

What metal is in there to weld to other then this body mount itself ? I thought that was all fiberglass around it.

Any chance you have some pictures form when you did that?
you need to weld it to the birdcage.......this is the birdcage ..pic won t load,sorry....if you have an AIM its on page 48,49 in mine..in underbody section

theres nothing left of the old mount bracket? well. if not,looks like you will need to get creative and add some metal to the cage to attach the mount brkt.. if you had any of it left , you can cut off the rusted portion,drill a few holes in it ,open it up slightly, push the new one inside and spot weld thru the holes you drilled..

well until I cut the fiberglass away all I can tell for now is that there is no metal on the bottom at all and virtual no metal to the in side of the car side (bird cage or bracket)

hopefully maybe this weekend I can cut away the tire well fiberglass like aquarian's pictures showed and then I'll have a better idea
