On Friday I'll be making a 500 mile round trip to Santa Barbara and back. About 250 of those miles will be through farming country so it'll be interesting to see how many insect splatters I get on my windshield. All of my driving will be during daylight hours and the last 150 miles of the trip will be near 100 degrees. I'll ignore the tiny gnats and only count the ones that make sizeable splatters like moths and butterflies.

On a trip to the coast 45 years ago every square inch of the front of my car got splattered with yellow butterflies from the surrounding alfalfa fields. So bad I had to stop four times to clean my windshield so I could see through it.

I'll report my findings on Saturday morning after I have a good night's sleep.

How about NONE after 517 miles?
