Be prepared to replace the tank. Not that hard.
I second this. When I resto'd my '73, I took the tank out, inspected and cleaned it, repainted the outside as a rust preventative and reinstalled. Less than a year later, a rust area from inside that I could not see caused a hole and I had to replace the tank. They're not that expensive and to really inspect it you have to R&R it anyway. PLUS, it will be a lot easier to replace those hoses! Just be careful not to damage the rollover valve on the driver's side corner like I did. If you wanted to replace it, it is a $55 item. Although I didn't do that. Instead I went with a vented cap and eliminated the charcoal cannister. I figure if I roll it over, I am screwed anyway!
