I needed a spare so I picked up a 8 inch rally rim with a wide ovel type tire mounted on it.The car is a 1971 stingray, an when I put it in the spare tire carrier,it's hard to close,I have to let air out of the tire. I was wondering if the spare has a different size.

I think they came with an F70 x15 .. that's about a 225 ...anything bigger wont close . later years have the temporary type spare

The C3's use a special tire; a 195 X 15" if I recall. It's a real narrow tire that is mounted on a narrow rim so it'll fit into the carrier. I bought one for my '71 over the internet several months ago.

The tires are made for temporary use only and they have a "Maximum 50 mph" rating imprinted onto the side.

Toobroke , I don t think the 71 used the Temp Spare .. that started a few years later on.. My 71 came new with a reg tire spare .. I m almost sure it was an F-70x15.. it never touched the ground while I owned it.. I did go thru a few sets of rear tires tho.. it did have a 454!

Yes F70 x 15" There is still one in the spare carrier of my '70 (and an ugly looking thing it is too The tyre that is!

As my '71 is running 255X60R-15's I decided to use the same spare as my '82 uses because it also has 255X60R-15's. Yes, I believe the old F70X15 will fit but it's about the same width as the temporary-use 195X15.
