I finally got my ‘71 on the road! Driving around town is fine for what it is (270s @.050 cam and 365cc heads). It certainly isn’t a daily driver but it isn't what I expected with these specs. The problem comes ONLY in 4th gear at 60 to 65 mph cruising speeds. When I give it a full throttle in 4th I get NO response. I’m at a complete loss. Any ideas?

A camshaft with a duration in the 270's @ .050" has an operating range of around 5200 to 7500 rpm which is way above what his street engine can tolerate at 60 mph in 4th gear with 3.36 gears and 2500 rpm. He would need to go 125 mph just to get his engine speed up to its lowest 5200 rpm efficiency range. He needs a street camshaft with a duration of around 225 to 230 degrees @ .050 lift with an operating range of around 1800 to 5500 rpm.
