About ten years ago my tachometer cable broke probably because of its "S" bend. To take the "S" out of the cable I clocked my HEI so my vacuum advance pointed directly to the passenger side and my tachometer cable now has a large gentle bend.
I also installed a 90 degree grease zerk into my tachometer drive so I can periodically grease the drive and driven gears.
