Default Staying cool in SC...Fan and Termostat ???

I own a 2003, 50th Annv. LS1 with auto tranny. My question does anyone know at what temp the electric fan should kick in? It was warmer then usual today and the temp got to 210 and had no fan action? Is there a device out there where I can control the fan motor to starting sooner...( I once own a 95 and found a device that I hook to a fan relay and a toggle switch i install inside my interior, but can locate that that device anymore)? Also If I go to a lower termostat 160, will the computer reconize it without going crazy, or go with a 180 to be safe?

That sounds normal, temp wise. Here's how the fans are set up from the factory:

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

I have a 160 degree stat and reprogrammed fan settings via a tune, I haven't seen my water reach 190 yet...

Mr. T, I just ordered a 160 termostat...my question is it necessary to re-program my fan settings or can I just leave it alone? Also what does the setting have to be for a 03, LS1...I don't have a programmer, but If I have to I'll find a good one. Oh yea one other thing...what GM engineer decided that making the termostat part of the water outlet was a good idea, NOT!!!

Call me Tim, when you call me Mr. T I feel like I'm wearing a ton of gold chains around my neck!!!!

You should notice a difference as your water will start flowing sooner. If you're still having overheating issues in SC by all means get a tune or tuner and have your fans re-adjusted!! Mike is a very honest and straight forward rep for Diablo handhelds, give him a PM...

Yeah you like that housing and stat in one unit? Friggin idiots...

Tim

Best case is get PCM tuned to match the Tstat since once the Tstat is open the water temp will keep increasing until stock fan settings are met.
Most 3rd party colder Tstats are not what they claim so best is to open the Tstat, put end of string in opening and let tstat close.

Now hanging on the string use heated water pot on stove use measure water temp. Once tstat begins to open it will fall from string allowing you to see the opening temp

3rd party Tstats are ripoff as to price when you can shim it yourself for nothing. How to at
http://teamzr1.com/modstat.html

Now with tuning you can dicate when the fans will function at what temp and up to what MPH.

That's a good resource! I checked my 160 in hot water and assuming the Thermometer was accurate, it opened at 164 pretty consistantly. I have a stock TStat if you want to play with the Mod and test it as 99 suggests... PM me if interested.

What type of tuning do you offer? Any mail order for simple things like this?

Just got my new aftermarket 160 deg termostat from Auto Zone its made from a Germany from a company called motorworks, but it had no temp. marking on the case. So I took 99vette advice and put in a pot of hot water with a term. before I installed it and the damn thing started to open at 186 deg (which I already had in my vette). So the marle to this story is test it before your install it. Thks again 99vette, Tim and all on this for your sugguestions there a big help.
