Question Need some advice on my deck

I should say my upcoming deck. I would like to build a new deck in the back of the house. I was wondering what is a good wood to build a deck out of? Red wood? Has anyone used that new composite decking? They say you don't need to stain or sand it like normal wood?

I put a new deck across the front of my house ten years ago. Used treated 2x6 pine. When it comes time to replace top on it I am going with the composite.

The composite's are looking really good, they do cost a little more but looking very good. Here is a company I just got some information in the mail on: http://www.trex.com/Default.aspx

Last fall I had the floor of my porch replaced with composite decking and I really like it. However after only a few months I have noticed that the ends that are partially exposed to the elements are weathering (fading) for some reason. I'm not sure if it's the sun or rain or what is causing it. But it was pretty expensive to have it put down and parts of it look 5 years old already. I was told not to stain it, but I wonder if I should have put some protective coating on it. On the other hand I was told it was a maintenace free product. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret going with the composite over wood. But I feel people should be aware that the finish might fade.

We are currently looking at Trex to replace our redwood deck.

I know a few people with composite decking and their only complaint is it gets too hot in the sun. So hot you can't stand on it barefoot.

Only advise I can offer is move your thumb off the head of the nail BEFORE, <- that part is important, you swing the hammer
