My left-side strut rod broke a couple of days ago and I damned near lost control of my '71. As I was on a twisty-turny mountain road at the time I had to continue driving an additional 7 miles until I could find a straight section to turn around.
Upon inspection I found these strut rods were apparently Chinese-made as the threads were metric, die cut, and the end studs had been welded onto the bushing eyes. Certainly very poor quality and very unsafe as well. So if you decided to buy adjustable strut rods be very careful to only buy top quality American-made stainless steel strut rods. It could be a matter of life or death. ![]() ![]() ![]() By the time I got back home my tire was almost on fire from the friction of rubbing against the inner fender. |

I found the bushings they use have an outer steel shell that is 1/8" thick and an inner steel sleeve. What they did was simply weld the threaded end directly to the outer shell. From close inspection I can see where the weld began to fracture then work it's way across to the other side and then let go. And down my car went..................... |
