When the dust clears, who will be number one?
There is plenty of speculation. There may even be a way of placing a wager in Vegas on who the first might be come January 13, 2013. Does the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction come in to play? We have our own speculation certainly. It really can’t be coincidence the highly anticipated unveiling of the new 2014 C7 Corvette at the Detroit Auto Show on 1-13-13 also occurs on the first day of the auction in Scottsdale (which begins on the same day). 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Corvette enthusiasts have burned the 1-13-13 sequence of numbers into their individual brains. Heck, even as a collective, the date looms more provocatively than Christmas Day ever could. We have seen tiny glimpses from Chevrolet about the new C7 Corvette. We have seen a bumper here, an engine schematic there and a teaser video with more wind and road than car. Still, we are glued to our monitors and mobile devices waiting for the next bread crumb. I’m as guilty (if not more) than the next guy. So what does it all mean? I’m pretty sure it means someone with the financial means necessary is going to be getting the first (or second if serial number 1 ends up at the National Corvette Museum) 2014 C7 Corvette at auction. And it’s going to be going to the highest bidder. What are your guesses? $300,000? Half a million? Will it go for more than a million dollars? With Barrett-Jackson in one corner, capable of building an excruciating amount of interest and often setting record auction prices for automobiles; and in the other corner, Chevrolet and the Detroit Auto Show, delivering the most anticipated US automobile in more than a decade, this coming January 13, 2013 is sure to be a major event. As an added bonus, I for one can’t wait to see what Chevrolet does for the new C7 Corvette in the upcoming Super Bowl commercials. How much do you think the first 2014 C7 Corvette will be sold for (and when)? |

I actually wouldn't want it even if I could afford it
I want a driver and that one will be a collector car

If the proceeds of the auction are going to charity, I could see it hitting $500k or more. If GM is pocketing the money, that will slow things down a bit, although Mid-East oil money has been known to pay a lot for stuff that most people would not.
Not to mention I can't leave a sports car unmolested. Once it is modded, the value of the car gets crushed.

I would have left my minivan stock, but my son decided that aftermarket sheet metal, bumper supports, etc needed to be tried.
