On my '75 passenger window it has decal on it that says " Astro ventilation". Anyone know what that means?

I believe it was a sales gimmick, The circular ball vent for the ac was called an "Astro vent" it was used to sell cars in the early 70s

actually it was GM s constant flow air recirculation system in the Corvette .. the blower runs at very low speed to constantly exchange the air in the very small cabin

OK fish you made me do home work. this is what i found. rember it comes from the internet so accuracy may be off but it fits with what fish put out.

Astro Ventilation System: The Astro-Ventilation System is designed to provide ventilation air throughout a normally closed automotive cockpit/interior. Normally this air would have been supplied by the front door vent windows, as was the style in older cars. However since the innovation of the one-piece front door window, another source was developed. Upper level ventilation is provided by air inlets on either side of the cowl plenum. A distributor duct extends from the inlet to the instrument panel where air is directed by spherical outlets. These outlets can be rotated to provide soft diffused air of spot cooling. Air shut-off doors are located in the ducts and are operated by push pull knobs located beside the outlets. Air is vented though a vacuum operated door. This door is located behind the rear window and is open when the temperature control is on "off"; at any other position, the door will be closed.

Side vent windows were eliminated in favor of a new fresh-air "Astro Ventilation" system The 1968 Camaro had the new "Astro Ventilation," which means that it did not have those small windows located on the front passenger and driver's windows

1975 was the last year for the Astro Ventilation system

Yeah Voler, my other nickname is "Super Genius" ! LOL! ..nah, not really, I ve been working on these cars since 1972.. you learn alot over that many years... of course I ve forgotten about half of it!

Sorry to butt in on this thread but I have an Astro ventilated C3 that has had most of its air conditioning system removed.The only remaining items are the heater and blower. I cant seem to get any cool air into the cabin at all and wondered if uncovering the vents in the back would be beneficial? Currently they are covered with carpet as the trunk area is completely carpeted. I believe that the vaccuum operated "doors" on the rear vents are missing also or at least the vacuum actuator seems to be missing The round vents in the dash have no connecting hoses to anything, I was thinking maybe I should cut holes in the inner guards where the non air conditioned cars had vents in the kick space and connect directly from there to the dash vents. The car is very hard to live in on even a mildly warm day the way it is at the moment:-(

Hagg you may have more going on than just AC/heat issues. When I first received my C3 all I could stand was about 15 min in it, I had to find all the leaks from underneath and engine compartment and seal them up then insulate it well before it was even bare able to drive. My AC is all there but nonfunctioning right now (haven’t started the rebuild on it yet) But I now drive it as primary transportation to work with no issues. I would start with sealing up the trans tunnel then fire wall. Insulate inside and confirm that the outside under trans tunnel insulation is in place. Anyone else know typical areas that are issues?

make sure the hot water shut-off valve is working for the heater.. its in the hose on passenger side near firewall
