Hi everyone, my name is Brian and i am new here. I have 2 vettes. I have a 78 pace car and a 82 corvette. My problem is with my 82 corvette. The car has 4,700 original miles. Everything is stock and correct. I bought the car over the spring from a dealer. The car had a quater of a tank of gas when it came to me. It started fine when i got it and for a while. I put it away in my garage for the summer on the battery tender and didn't touch it til yesterday. My problem is the car starts right up no problem but the stalls out about 3 seconds after it starts. Even if i give it gas. I took the air cover off and the injectors are shooting the gas just fine. I don't see any lights flashing or any codes. Really i don't even know how to check for the codes. Just nothing seems out of the ordinary. I did put fresh gas in the tank and still nothing . Any idea where i should start looking.
Thanks Brian |

Brian, first of all I'd like to welcome you to our great forum. We have a great bunch of members in this forum and some of them have a great deal of experience with C3's. As the '82's are the only C3's that have the CrossFire Injection system they are very unique as far as troubleshooting goes. I have owned my '82 for 25 years and know most everything about it so if you e-mail me at sw82vette@yahoo.com I'll help you find your problem. Brian, if your CrossFire Injected engine is starting and only running for 2 seconds it sounds like the plugin connection on top of your oil pressure switch is either loose or has come undone.
When you turn your key on the ECM will power the fuel pump for 2 seconds and if it makes oil pressure during those 2 seconds the engine will continue to run. But if oil pressure isn't "seen" during those 2 seconds the fuel pump will quit running. So check that connection first. But e-mail me anyway and I'll tell you how the CrossFire system works and also how to modify it to gain a lot more power. Last edited by toobroketoretire; 10-29-2012 at 11:06 AM. |
