Default Missing U-joint nuts....NUTS!

Today was the first day I was able to really crawl around under my Stingray after getting it this past week. looking at the axle u-joints I noticed there were no nuts on any of the u-joint strap bolts. WOW! This made me and a buddy check out the rest of the suspension but everything else looks good. Auto parts store showed these take 5/16 nuts & washers but 3/8's fit mine.

The front driveshaft uses 5/16" SAE nuts and the half shafts use 3/8" SAE nuts.

Haha...nope, all 8 were missing. I'm glad I didn't get to hear it!

It's been a while since I have had a half shaft off. But I thought they also had lock washers on them.

In the many years I have been twisting wrenches I have found most "lock" washers don't lock anything at all as their sharp edges have long disappeared. In order to "lock" a nut the washer must dig into the nut and now days you're lucky if you can find one that will do that. Personally I prefer to use LocTite; low strength blue on fine threads and high strength red on coarse threads.

I went ahead and put them on too. Just seemed the right thing to do.
