C5 "Sevice Column Lock" Message

I have a 2002 C5, automatic.
The "Service Column Lock" message keeps coming on. The ignition is slow to start, and at times seems like it will not start at all. My manuel says this message is not applicable to automatic, only manuel.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Common problem on c5's. It happens to both manual and auto trans. You will need to install a column lock bypass cable.
