How many people that own Corvettes also own Harleys ? They are both American icons and go together like beer and chips. I have personally owned many of both for over forty years and consider it as the same thing as flying the American flag. Only in America can it be done in the unique way that we do everything. I'm not saying that the foreign cars and bikes are not built well , but our vehicles are built with testosterone, if you know what I mean. I currently own a 2001 triple black 6 speed Corvette convertible and a 2010 Harley Heritage Classic 96 cubic inch 6 speed. List your Corvettes and Harleys if you have them or if you owned them together in the past.

no Harley, but currently a Katana Sportbike along with my C5 and my C3 ...I ve been riding bikes since the 1960s and driving a Corvette [ of several generations] since 1972.. I think Harleys are good looking, tho tempermental, bikes.. but you can BEAT the living crap out of a Rice Burner and it just keeps going and going and going..

Although Harleys are assembled in the USA and many of the parts are manufactured in the USA, many parts are manufactured outside of the USA. That said, I recently totaled my 2003 Anniversary Road King and now have a 2012 Road Glide.

Tempermental ? Your thinking about the Harleys of years back before fuel injection and computers. Harleys today are very dependable. You have to own one today to know that. Those old statements are like Pittsburgh is still known by some people as the smokey city when there were steel mills everywhere but today the mills have moved on and the city has converted to mostly all high tech industries such as the medical field. So no , you have to re-think things that you have heard years ago.

I agree with your statement about not every nut and bolt being made here . I challenge you to find a product of that size that is completely made in it's country of origin. It is a global economy and you have to realize that , but it is still considered an American product even though you may find a light bulb on it that was made in indonesia. That goes for every product out there no matter what country is producing the main product.

I currently own a 2010 Ultra Classic along with my C5. I purchased my first bike in 1974 and first corvette in 1980. I put more miles on the bike than I do the car.

I believe that the front fork tubes are made in Japan by Showa or something like that. Fork tubes are a major component IMO. Also, many parts are made in Mexico. Other parts are made in Singapore and Thailand and, maybe soon to be India.

On the other hand, a large number of parts for Honda motorcycles are made in Ohio and shipped all over the world.

not heard, seen..have friends with Harleys..we ride together ... they carry tool kits.. not putting them down, just expressing what I ve seen . and I m sure even you will admit that the AMF years were a bit shakey..this is a quote from an design expert that I always thought summed those years up..."During the AMF ownership years, bikes were of so poor quality (versus Japanese motorcycles) that Harleys were nicknamed “Hardly Ableson”, “Hardly Driveable,” and “Hogly Ferguson”...... I m sure they are much better now, at least I would hope so..again, not trying to put them down, just saying they ve had issues, as did some years of Corvettes...the L-48 engine for one and the Crossfire designs for another..

Harleys as with Corvettes or any other vehicle if beat into the ground will give you problems. As for the AMF years I owned a brand new 74 Sportster and a new Low Rider and they were great bikes. Of course I never beat them .

and thats was my original point...Harleys are good-looking bikes, no question about it....but you can beat the living crap out of my Katana and it just comes back for more ..you cannot break it..and I drive it hard..thats what I bought it for... my Harley friends would never risk it... but everybody rides or drives their own preference.. and thats the way it should be.
