Default moving on to the rear end

Now that im done rebuiling my engine I want to replace the rear. After researching this, I take it I need a Dana 44 with 3.07 gear ratio, and I read that I should get the complete rear.Is this correct.
Also what can be done to boost the transmission

Default dana 36

Its a dana 36 auto trans ,not sure of gear ratio .When i say boosting the trans ,ive read of shift kits.Basically what I want is more horsepower at the rear wheels.I havent gotten it dyno yet but I know there not 300 hp at the rear

You might already have a 3.07 rear end, decode your rpo sheet and see: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...-corvette.html

All you need is the D44 batwing and diffhead; all the rest of the rear suspension is the same as your D36
To do D44 swap also require D44 support beam aka C-Beam

Comes from the engine
Upgrading the trans and rear won't make any more HP but can make it quicker

Default dana 36 2.59

I found my rpo code which is GM1,so I got the dana 36 2.59 ratio.Ive seen the dana 44 3.07 and 3.45 for sale. Will either work and whats the difference?
I think Ive taken the engine as far as I can go.It is a big upgrade over the stock engine and very noticable.Ive gotten her up to 120 with lots of gas pedal left.I just feel I have to upgrade that rear!

On my 1990 I did my diff some years ago from 2.59 to 3.73 and it's like a rocket especially on the eight mile!!
Just remember to adapt your VSS gearing to get the correct speed indicated then

They will all work, just change the speedo drive gear to match. Which one to use is a tradeoff between acceleration and highway cruising/gas mileage. Your 2.59 is the best for gas mileage and low rpm highway cruising. At 70mph you are only turning 1800rpm, if you go to the 3.45 you will accelerate faster but your gas mileage will go down and you will be turning arround 3000rpm or more at 70mph. The 3.07 will be somewhere in between.

Also, if your engine can pull the gears, you should be able to go at least 150mph with the 2.59 rear end. The 85 hit that in 1985 and was declared the fastest American production car at the time.......
