Hello my name is rod and new to smokin vette. I'm having a problem keeping car running , will start a run fine for about 5 mins I have replaced fuel pump , fuel filter , 2 new computers 1 prom , fuel regulator , coolant temp sensor , oil pressure sensor , Maf sensor , rotor and cap, fuel pump relay it is not throwing in codes just stumped as to what it could be . It does seem to run a little rich when it does run . Before all this happened it ran great . I always have started it monthly and have let it run for 15 mins or so Ive put maybe 200 miles on it in the last 14 years . It did make a pop noise up in the engine compartment so could it be the smog pump valve stuck open and sending to much air in exhaust making o2 sensor think it is running lean and icm sending more fuel to carbs to run rich

welcome to SV....when you changed the cap and rotor, did you also replace the ignition module? if its original, , its past due.. they have a tendency to start fine, and then when they start to warm up, fail, usually sputtering then die ...we have a member thats extremely experienced with the Crossfire problems, if its in the CFI itself , ..I m sure he will chime in too.

Rod, if you really want to find out what's wrong you'll have to do some troubleshooting. It's either losing it's fuel pressure or it's spark and you'll have to find which. Many years ago I added a 1/8" brass T to my fuel line so I could check my fuel pressure with an ordinary gauge and I suggest you do the same. The CrossFires need about 11-12 psi at all throttle openings/speed ranges.
![]() If your fuel pressure is adequate and your engine still dies then you are losing your spark. I'll be glad to help you find the problem but I prefer to work one-on-one outside of the forum. Contact me at sw82vette@yahoo.com and I'll walk you thru the troubleshooting process...................... |
