Default Courtesy Lamp Mystery

I'm having a problem with the courtesy lights that just started. My car is an '08, manual 6spd., Z51 with 9600 miles on it. I was driving and noticed the lights in the rear view were on. I pushed the buttons to shut them off, but they stayed on. I parked, restarted the car, but they wouldn't shut off. I pulled the fuse so the battery wouldn't drain, and parked it. As you all know the mirror houses Onstar, so I assume it's now disabled? Can anyone help me out as to what the problem might be? I hope I don't have to replace the whole mirror. Thanks in advance, any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks Oldtimer, I will check it out. I replaced the battery today in case the old (original) one was going bad.
