Default Rear Diff Question

Everything Ive researched says that my car a 1977 should be a positraction rear end but the spin test proves other wise. I jacked up my car and spun one wheel clockwise and the other end went counter. WTF Does this mean that this is not a posi. I was also told to find the numbers under my diff but was unable to locate. I dont know what to do.

I do know that my new ring and pinion are coming tomorrow along with a rear diff rebuild kit.

DO I NEED THE POSI CARRIER ALSO????????

HELP

The "open" and the "posi" rear ends are exactly the same except the posi rear ends are machined for the use of clutch plates and springs. But otherwise they both have 2 axle gears and 2 spider gears.

Every time you turn a corner the clutch plates have to "slip" so the outer tire can roll further than the inner tire. So every time you turn a corner a little bit of wear is taking place.

Once you get it out and take it apart you'll be able to see what's wrong as the sintered iron clutch plates are most likely worn smooth with no oil grooves remaining.

Default Friction Modifier

And be sure to use the 6 ounces of "friction modifier" when you refill it. Any brand will do. Without friction modifier it'll pop and jerk when turning corners......................
