Default To Cam or Not?

Well I have always liked the sound of a car with a nice cam. I'm not really a hot rodder, my question is will a mild cam, heads and good tune hurt the driving as far as a long Sunday drive with the wife?
If I go with a package like West Coast has for 85hp increase will I get a nice lope or not??
Not sure I'm asking the right question but maybe someone will know??

You don't say what you're running now. LS1 (year)? LS6?

You might look at the trick-flow packages as well - and - don't believe the numbers they quote. Don't go too radical.
More cam = more power = more noise. And, to get the benefit are you getting headers too?
Are you doing the job yourself?

It's 99 LS1, auto.
No I'm not going to do it myself. Don't have the time or shop space. Yes I'm wanting to go with headers and new x-pipe, I have already install Magnaflow cat back exhaust and cold air intake.
I really just want a mild cam and head package with a good Dyno tune. Would like keep trans as close to stock as I can, the wife still drives it from time to time.
But I would like some noise a good lope. Maybe 80 to 100hp increase if that's possible without doing the trans.

Something like:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-K306-515-460/

It's got a decent cam 228/230 and .585 in lift.

You'll also need new valve covers (center bolt - all new heads will be that way) and they recommend an LS6 or Fast intake.

Default to cam or not?

I looked at this package from Summit and it looks good, but does anyone know if the '99 Vert can handle this? I would like to increase the power, but not twist the frame in doing so.

you will never twist the frame untill you upgrade everything from tires to all the drivetrain

Default cam

You will not hurt anything... I have a cam heads headers and it sounds awsome and runs even better.. Had a very good Corvette shop in my area perform the work and no regrets......

The only way you'll twist the frame is if you hit something.... that's just one of the great features of having the trans in the rear That's why you don't see vettes twist like other cars when they launch at the track.
