Default heater core

Hello everyone, I am installing a Vintage Air system and wondering why I shoulkd keep the heater core in the car? It will not be needed for heat on the VA system so is there any reason to keep it? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I live in SD and there are times during the summer I run the heat late at night. When I am out cruising I like being comfortable.
Are you trying to save weight? If you are, I can't imagine it being that much.
Are you trying to reduce the heat in the passenger compartment? If you are I placed a ball valve inline on one of the heater hoses, no hot water = no heat.

Why wouldn't you install the VA as it came?

Default heater core

I do plan on installing the VA like it's suppose to be installed. I've read through the instructions 10 times and I know the heater/ defrost assembly under the dash comes out, however I was not sure about the h.core. I don't know if's its connected physically to the heater assembly or not. Guess it's a good time to get it out of the car. Thanks for the replies.

I purchased a ball valve (Shut off valve) from the local hardware store and added adapters to fit the heater core hoses. Sorry I can't remember the size of the hose, its about a 1/4 turn to open it for heat and another 1/4 turn to close it. I placed it inline in the heater hose that feeds the heater core (one coming off the water pump), I don't think it matters which heater hose you install it in. During the summer we turn it to the off position so there is no hot water going to the heater core. It works as the same principle as the hot water shut off valve that came on the vettes except its not vacuumed operated and I know its off or on.

Vintage Air comes complete with heater core. Out with the old-in with the new.
As I recall it has a remote valve that keeps warm air away from the core until you call for heat.
You are going to like the whole setup.

69Ray, thanks for taking the time to reply. I always knew the heater core was for the heater but didn't know if it served any other purpose. I do look forward in getting the old out and the new in. Living in Florida, the car is useless in the summer because of the heat and humidity. Night time driving only. Its almost too hot to do the A/c install work right now as it is. I'm trying to do as much in late afternoons as possible.
