Default Getting it to run

I bought my '90 C4/C5 Vette on ebay. By the time I drove it Miss. to Las Vegas the plugs fouled out. They turned out to be heat range 4 instead of the required 14. New plugs got it running, but the engine service light was on and it wouldn't idle. I managed to get a Chevy dealer to scan for the error codes though he wouldn't work on it due to the roller cam, etc. With the codes I replaced the throttle position indicator and when that didn't solve the idle problem I resorted to snake oil. In less than 10 miles the injectors were clean and the engine purring at idle (800 rpm). Running strong, the engine now generated too much heat for Vegas and I ended up pulling out the thermostat. With the increased flow throught the radiator it finally became drivable. Rather than put a thermostat back in for cold weather conditions I'll probably put a marine ball valve in the radiator hose.

You realize with no thermo it is possible for the coolant to move too fast through the system and not have time to release heat in the radiator

I would be reworking your fans so they run at a lower temp than the stock 228F setting
