Does any C4 owner feel they get less respect when coming up against the other generations?
It does seem that way sometimes, do you have an "event to vent"

Only on these forums. In the real world, never had a bad word spoken about my vette from any other gen of vette owner, or from any other car guy for that matter. In fact, it's just the opposite, i get plenty of compliments from other vette owners and non vette owners alike.

I love the C4's. Mine's an 89, the last of the Star Trek Dashes. But I perferd the oval tail lamps of the latter C4's, so I did a front and rear swap from a 96 plus the side gills. It was a bolt on switch, very easy! I've had mine for eight years, never seen another like it. It truly is in a class of it's own.

A Corvette is an American icon, and has always represented the epitome of American muscle. Growing up, and growing older, anyone doing up a muscle car always compared what they had to a Vette. The first generation started it all. The look was unique and said this is what an American race car looks like. The second generation was an awesome look with all that power under the hood, and I think it's what drove inovation into all the automakers to make their cars more powerful, faster, and to try and run like a Vette. The C3s came out and OMG! The look was/is stunning, and at least in the beginning, still had that C2 power to push it down the street. When the 70s started sinking in, the look was still there, but the power went way down to keep up with emissions standards. The early mid 70s to the last in 82 weren't exactly tire smokin, flying down the road beasts they once were, but still the fastest American production cars. That said, I've had a number of muscle cars that would walk all over those underpowered toys, but ya know what? They were still a Vette, and even though mine was faster, it still wasn't a Vette. No offense to any other version, but that look is still one of the hottest sexiest cars on the road. It's the style I grew up with when I started driving to ending my 20s, & I love it the best. When your C4s first came out, I thought WTF did Chevy do to my Corvette? If I know someone with a really big door that won't stay open, I know where to find a doorstop for it. Powerwise, it wasn't any different than the later C3s, and it still was a Vette, and I still respected that. The style eventually grew on me, and the later C4s started lookin good again, cool, a Vette! Then the C5s came out & I again thought, CHEVY WTF did you do to my car again??? And then, that Vette started lookin good too. Power was starting to come back with the later C4s, which is a GOOD thing, and the C5s pushed that even more. Haven't quite made up my mind on the C6s, but they are Vettes, even though the headlights don't pop up . . .
Early spring, my son bought a 99 Z28 with a LS1 . . . wait a minute, isn't that a Vette engine?? We put 373s in it and he got a K&N ram air. A friend's wife has a '67 383 Barracuda, strictly a strip car, headers, mild cam, 373s & MTs. If I remember right, they were a pretty fast car in their day, and she runs 13.7s. His last time at the strip, the kid ran 13.2 on street tires. I'm sure when he told me this, he meant from a slow rolling start up to the legal speed limit, but he came home one night and said, "DAD, I BEAT A VETTE!" I asked what year, he didn't know, but went and did a Google pic search. From what he showed me, and wasn't exactly sure, I guessed an 89, maybe a 90? He was thrilled for a week. He started looking at Vette pics, checking out Vette stats, EBay, Cars.com, Autotrader . . . He started pricing them seriously, and said he wanted to save up his $$ and maybe next spring, sell his Z & . . . get a Vette . . . I told him if he put that money into his Z, he'd have a car that a Z06 couldn't keep up with . . . ya know what he told me . . . same thing I thought years ago long before he was born when I beat my first one . . . he said, "yea Dad, but it still won't be a Vette." eltee4, you have a Vette. I don't care what year it is, don't care how fast or slow it is, you have a Vette. Nothing any ignorant POS can say changes that. You've got a Vette, and in the world of cars, and the world of real people, that's a REALLY good thing. Last edited by maybC3Brian; 10-04-2011 at 12:12 PM. |

It does seem that way sometimes, do you have an "event to vent" " Who gives a dam, I bought a c4 to enjoy, and it was cheap, C4s are the best buy in the market place at this time and one in good tune will run the crap out of most c3 and c2 vettes and some c5s. ![]() btw: I am still trying to get rid of some rattles in the dash but the car goes like hell which is what a Corvette is supposed to do! Just turn up the stereo and drive, baby drive.........335 ft lbs of torque blows almost anything away up to 100mph....... Time for another drink.......... __________________ Last edited by Slicktop; 10-03-2011 at 11:03 PM. |

I was on a trip on the coastal route and a guy and his girlfriend, drivin a brand-new Maseratti, could not stop taking pictures of my vette!!
When driving pass some people, they would not even spot the Maseratti but rather look at the 1990 Vette!! That was pleasure!!!!

Probably not many C4 vettes in South Africa so would draw a lot of interest.
When the C4 first came out here in 1984 it looked like a car from outer space and was considered a giant leap forward until its faults became known....... |

Maybe in the "states" where materialism is king but....
Over here in Japan less than 3 months ago my 90 Vette was given a 5 page spread in a prominent Japanese/American Car magazine. If the C4 doesent get "respect" its probably by a C5 owner on the many Vette forums who spent thousand$$$ more and has yet to fill villified in their purchase. In either case Vettes are a rare breed and usually get lots of admiration by people who rarely get to see any generation of them.
