Default LS1 or LS6 Starter Replacement

Can someone tell me if these engines require shims to install starters correctly. This is just for future reference as my starter is currently doing fine. I'm gun-shy about installing GM starters ever since I had shim problems installing a starter in my S-10 pickup a few years back.

LS engines do not require starter shims like the 55-86 Chevy s sometimes did
