I bought a 91 c4 with a targa top last summer, took the top off and the front screws out? I CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING ON THIS PROBLEM OR DRAWINGS THAT SHOW ME WHAT THE ATTACHMENT CONCEPT IS.
HOW DO I GET THE SCREWS BACK IN...ANYONE THAT KNOW THE ANSWER WILL KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. |

Also if after you get the bolts and sleeves for bolts. The bracket is under the trim piece for the halo.Theres shims to bring the bracket out a bit and What I did was remove the interior trim from halo then put the top on and while the bracket was loose (not too loose) I went in with a thin wrench to tighten. Also applying a small ammount of pressure to the top to insure a good seal. After everything was tight and lined up I replaced the halo trim and its been set.Now I just drop the top down and apply a light pressure and screw it in place. But the front bolts should stay in the brackets. The rear the sleeves hold them in place so you dont drop them and have to chase the bolts around the floor. Again the top needs to be installed on a level surface. The bolts are like 6 bucks each at Ecklers or Zip and the brackets are I think around 30 and the sleeves are cheap too. I keep a set of spare bolts, sleeves and brackets in the garage in case.

so when taking the top off you only remove the rear screws, not all four?

You must fully loosen the four bolts but there are retainers in the targa top to keep the bolts from falling out so you wont lose them. Pay close attention to the bolts and retainer when removing the top so if they do come undone from the top you can put them back in.

Yes only remove the two rear screws. The front ones stay in the front brackets and the rear ones stay in the top providing you got the sleeves around the screws. If any of the screws fall out you need to get the sleeves that keep them in place.Actually if everything is there you just loosen the bolts till they are loose enough to pop the top. To replace make sure the car is on a level surface and tighten till snug. Also dont use and locktite on the screws. They do shake loose from vibration and and if you hit a bump and the top rattles just retighten.

Oh another thing if the bolts do snap keep a couple of spares around and an easy out tool to extract the broken bit. I have had to replace the rear bolts a couple of times. Its due to mostly body flex snapping them if they are too tight. So I learned to just tighten to snug.
