Default Route 66 in a Vette???

I would like to drive my '84 Vette the whole length of Route 66 in May 2010. Is there anyone out there who has done that? Is it practical as low as a Vette sets to the ground? I know there are sections of the older roadway of Route 66 (Example: 1930's roadway) that have deteriorated so badly that I cannot take them. Will most of the route be OK?

Cool route 66

Hi, I'm wondering if you ever followed through with your route 66 trip? I live in OK, about a mile from a section of the Route. Most of the updated stretches of Route 66 that I know of are fine for a low-riding vette. I'm sure there's some business roads and small town stops that aren't quite as vette friendly.

Although it was on a motorcycle, I have traveled most of the entire length of Route 66 in 2010. Some of the road is now Interstate, some of the road is two lane asphalt, some of the road is brick pavers, some of the road is old concrete and some has reverted to natural sand. If you drive sanely and avoid the sand, you should be OK.

I thought about a route 66 trip, but have heard that some of it just wasn't good road to travel. Perhaps I'll give it a go with this new info.

I also want to do a Hwy 1 trip as well. Fortunately, there are pages and pages of info and advice for anyone wanting to do a Hwy 1 trip.

There is a book by Jerry McClanahan that provides a very detailed description of the route. AFAIAC, it is like my American Express. If you are going to do 66, "Don't Leave Home Without It."
