Question Where does GM conduct road test for Corvettes?

Anyone happen to know what track GM test Corvettes? Also was wondering what all do they test? Is every Corvette sent through some testing process? Or just random ones from the production line to keep with quality control?

GM selects cars at random from the production process. These cars will be run on the squeak and rattle track and then taken on an up to 28 mile road test for evaluation on the plant grounds and around the neighboring area depending upon what they are looking for.

Each car as it rolls off the assembly line is put on a dyno and run through a series of tests. The car passes through a leak test where 6,000 gallons of water are poured over the car with pressurized spary and then out the back. Once the car leaves the plant, every Corvette is run on a squeak and rattle track that is 1/4 mile long out behind the plant. The car is then taken through a C.A.R.E. (customer acceptance requirement evaluation as I recall) where a team of inspectors goes over the car as a customer would taking new car delivery.

Am I understanding you correctly that each car, not selected few will see a dyno at the factory? With that being the case is it possible to find out what the actual RWHP is prior to buying. I've heard cases where some Corvettes exactly the same get higher HP figures on base runs.

The dyno does not measure horsepower. They simply use the dyno setup to allow the car to be "driven" while stationary. They drive on to rollers, plug in the OBDII connection and take the car through a series of tests while monitoring system output for various sensors and systems. This is more of a rolling diagnostic as opposed to a conventional chasis dyno.

Talon does GM open up these sort of test to be observed by general public? Might be fun to watch GM test these cars on track

Unfortunately, no. It is behind the plant in an area that is not very accessible. They have safety concerns. However if you are driving on the grounds you might see part of the road test portion going on.

Isn't there a track or road course in Arizona that I recall hearing about GM using for road testing these cars? Or am I confusion something different?

There are a number of tracks that GM uses including many of the road courses around the country and in Europe. Yes there is a test track in Arizona that they use for warm weather testing and endurance testing. They do a great deal of testing in Michigan at the GM proving grounds as well. I was of the impression that the OP was inquiring about testing of the vehicles at the assembly plant so that was how I tailored my answer.

Nothing wrong with your answer at all, I was just thinking to myself that I thought I remembered hearing something about a track or testing ground in Arizona some place.
