Default Murphys Oil Soap to wash a car?

Was at the Ford dealership a few weeks back talking to the body shop foreman. We were discussing detailing tips and such. He said that one product he uses and really seems to like to was his car is Murphys Oil Soap. This sounded kinda weird to me..but I figured if he's a body shop guy, im sure he must know whats good and whats not.

He said something about since carnuba wax has oils in it, then the murphys would be ok since it also has oils in it.

My concern would be any kind of detergents or harsh other chemicals in this stuff...

Anyone ever heard of that? Personally, I use mothers car wash on mine...but was just wondering if what he was saying has any merit?

The ingredients listed on the Murphy Oil Soap MSDS are potassium soap of vegetable oil, sodium EDTA (a preservative), water, fragrance, propylene glycol, and unspecified surfactants. This product has a pH 10.5, which is alkaline

Not something I would use, but then I don't advocate the use of household products to detail vehicles. My preference is always a product specifically formulated for the task

I have never heard anything like this before? I would stick with the formulated stuff specific for washing cars.

Honestly have never heard of this myself. This must be one of those urban secrets? Personally I'll pass on this one. Play it safe and stick with the normal car soap.
