I think venting to air is best but then that is not emission friendly either...

They do work and I'm a believer they should come from the factory. They elimate the excess oil that reaches the manifold and makes it way down into the valves. As far as HP goes, it may be true that it affects some performance but I don't track my car. Personal choice.
