I had an ex-girlfriend who used to park next to people even when she wasn't parked close the pack of cars. It wasn't until I pointed it out that she realized that the cars parked farther out were parked there because they didn't want anybody next to them.

Do you care about the guy your daughter dates?
Do you watch your kids when they play outside? It's not just a car, It's a CORVETTE! I work real hard to make sure it is super clean, detailed, and amazingly shiny. I think it is only natural to be a bit protective of it. So I park WAY OUT, and I am glad to do it. Dave Round Rock, TX |

Reminds me of two stories.
1) My dad told me a story of a Porsche collector who lived across the street from us when I was growing up. He had just taken delivery of a special model in the 80's. A week later he went to the mall, parked at the far end of the lot for 20 minutes, and when he came out the whole side was keyed. It was a green metal flake and he opted to get the whole car repainted so it would match. 2) My wife and I took a road trip. We went to a 7-11 and this guy pulls up in his beat-up pickup and parks next to me. His wife and screaming kids climb out of the truck. I sat there and watched to make sure his door stayed away from mine. I guess he saw me because just before he went inside, he grabbed his door and started wildly swinging it open and closed, missing the side view mirror by less than an inch, to prove he parked far enough away. Idiots. My wife never understood why I parked it so far away from people until she witnessed that. Now, when she takes it out, she parks far away. I was brought up to respect other people's property no matter what. Treat everything you come in contact with as if it was yours. I would go through the same effort to not ding an '78 Pacer as I would a new Bently. |

You won't see me getting lazy and trying to park as close as possible to my destination, I park far away.

I park far away from everyone too.Not long ago I parked my vette close to the front of a store like everyone else.Couple days later noticed someone bumped my front bumper causing a small crack in paint
Now I make sure I park far away from everyone else every time but notice people will still park by my car even though its the only car in that location-that pisses me off

I think for most people it's just that they are too fat or lazy (both) that they won't park far away.

We call it parking "in Vetteville" no matter what car we have.
There are many reasons to park far away including a safety zone especially when getting the kids in and out of the cars. Some might think its safer to be near the store but if you think about it farther is safer. You can easily determine if someone is following plus you and your car are more visible to security cameras and passersby. It's a lot easier to identify a threat walking toward or intruding in your personal safety zone when you're in the middle of nowhere which equals more response time to a threat.
