[QUOTE][ shorted a-b pins and all i got was check engine light flashing./QUOTE]

You should have noticed that the flashes were coming at different intervals.
It will flash once then wait a second to flash twice fairly fast. That is code 12 indicating that it is going into self diagnostics. The flashes after that are what you need to count out;
Example, 3 quick flashes followed by a 1 second wait then 4 more quick flashes, indicates a code 34. It will repeat each sequence 3 times before going onto the next code sequence. So, you must be paying attention to how the "check engine" light is flashing to determine what the number is...

Right. It will flash 1 2 1 2 1 2, code, code, code, next code, next code, next code,..... 1 2 1 2 1 2.
