Which is better? Classic Corvette or Latest and Greatest?

I love Corvettes. That isn’t a secret. It isn’t earth-shattering news either. Most of the people reading this probably love Corvettes, too. What I want to know is: are you a Classic Corvette lover, a modern day Corvette lover or simply “Every Corvette ever made is a thing of beauty” lover?

1962 Chevrolet Corvette C1 ImageWhen you look at a classic beauty like this 1962 Corvette it really is hard to find anything to complain about, but give me an honest opinion. Does this look much better to your eyes than the one below it? I personally, can’t wait for 1-13-13 when Chevrolet unveils the next iteration of Corvettes with the 2014 C7 Corvette and I’m pretty sure I’m going to love the design. But do you think that something has been lost (or gained) since this baby came out 50 years ago?

Sometimes the lineage of a thing makes it so great. It isn’t any one version or example that defines its greatness, but the overall impact of its entire history. I think the Chevrolet Corvette is a fine example.

2012 Chevy Corvette ZR1Looking at this Z03 from a few years ago, it just screams sleek, speed and power in a way few other American made vehicles can claim. Is it better than gorgeous 1962 up there? Not in my eyes.

It may have more power and speed. Better handling and suspension, but in reality is it better? So perhaps the question isn’t which is better: classic or modern? Perhaps the best question is: what is it about Corvettes (past and present) that make them tug at the heartstrings of so many people?

Is past or present better? Yes.

Yes.

I like the 1962 a lot. Beautiful car and it still retains its cool factor to drive around in. However, the driving experience is not even close. Maybe the exhaust note is better than a 2012, but comfort, speed, handling, and ride are much better in a 2012, not to mention reliability.

I'd love to own a 62 vert, but it would never be driven the same way as my 2008. Not unless it underwent a complete powertrain and suspension updating.

If you want to drive , go newer
If you want to look, go older

When I had my 66 I thought it was good too , and it was for way back when......

Drive them both...

...and then it will be an obvious choice. I had a '66 427/425 roadster and it just plain sucked compared to the newest Vettes I have (2010 coupe 436 hp and 2013 427 vert). My 1976 and 1980 were pigs and not as cool as the '66 looked but even with their anemic engines, they were vastly superior. Old Vettes are good for just one thing and ONLY one thing - to look at. Members here picking the older Vettes have not driven both.

I think that each were great for their time, but I prefer late models myself.
