"$2 million Bugatti crashes into lagoon

By Chris Paschenko
The Daily News

Published November 12, 2009
LA MARQUE — The owner of one of the world’s fastest production automobiles accidentally drove his fine-tuned, French-built car into a saltwater lagoon Wednesday.

The man, who police said was from Lufkin, was uninjured after escaping the partially submerged Bugatti Veyron as it came to rest in about 2 feet of saltwater.

The two-seater, with 16 cylinders and four turbo chargers, can reach speeds of more than 250 mph. New models sell for about $2 million.

The man, who refused to give his name, was looking at real estate in Galveston.

About 3 p.m. a low-flying pelican distracted him as he traveled north on Interstate 45 just south of the hurricane levee near Omega Bay.

The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car’s front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon.

The Veyron’s powerful engine gurgled like an outboard motor for about 15 minutes before it died.

Police and firefighters blocked the frontage road until MCH Towing employee Gilbert Harrison carefully winched the car away from riprap and onto the soft, muddy bank.

It’s the rarest car in the world, not something you can just replace, the man said.

An Associated Press story in October mentioned a 2006 model Veyron for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., with an asking price of $1.25 million.

One of the prospective buyers was from Texas.

That Bugatti Veyron was one of only 200 made and one of only about 15 in the United States, the AP reported."
Do you know who makes the rules?

As sportsmen, it is absolutely imperative that in all of the sports we engage, we, without hesitation, play by the rules ....

We take care to understand the rules, we discuss the rules amongst ourselves, and we study the rules .....

As golfers, we are ruled by the rules ....

Lord knows there are all kinds of rules in that game.

And, as citizens, we must follow the rule of law for so many things we do every day....

But, just in case you have been pondering this, all your life, as to whom actually makes the rules, please note the attached:

I keep spreadsheets on each vehicle I own to track mpg, price paid for gas and a couple of other things. One of those vehicles is a 1998 Dodge Intrepid, V6, 3.2 Liter, Autostick. It just turned over 100,000 miles and it was recommended that the timing belt and spark plugs be changed at that mileage.

Since the spark plugs needed changing, just for the heck of it I had my trusted mechanic "index" the plugs.
http://corp.advanceautoparts.com/eng...20001001sp.asp

Prior to indexing, the best highway mpg (minimum 1000 mile trip) I have ever been able to get out of the Intrepid was about 27.5 plus or minus a few tenths. I use cruise control as much as possible and have it set between 65 and 70 mph. I filled the fuel tank before this trip and reset the mpg calculator on the OHD. On the 1933 mile round trip (here to DC to Mass to here) the OHD shows 30.2 mpg. I filled the tank just before arriving home and entered my use figures in the spreadsheet I keep for this car. The mpg calculated to be 30.15 (1933 miles traveled divided by 64.114 gal used). That is a better than 2.5 mpg increase. That, wonder of wonders, is a 9% improvement!

As the title says; I am amazed.

NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home,it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car Then we received this email yesterday:

WARNING FROM POLICE THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN
BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE-NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'

Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating. .... You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside.. You start the engine and shift into Reverse.

When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window.. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.
And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!
BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.
If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later.. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please keep this going and tell all your friends
