: Car signs for Shows
radioflyer97 08-28-2008, 04:11 PM Those of you that enter car shows, I'm looking for ideas for signs about your vehicle. I'm planning on entering a local show on Oct 8 and woul like to know what i should put on a sign.
Since my car is also best at night, I'm considering setting up a powerpoint slideshow on my laptop and setting it in my cargo area showing off some night pics. (I can power the laptop from a DC-AC power inverter inside the car)
This is going to be my first "all out" show and will hopefully be much better than my appearance last year.
Mike Mercury 08-28-2008, 05:41 PM since it's frowned upon to link to other forums, here's a cut&paste of some I did:
I think everyone knows I'm as cheap as they come... and with the car cruise-in season upon us now, I thought I'd post this.
This project originated with my wife wanting to have a sign with info about her (she sold it last year) 1973 Corvette - to be displayed at car cruise-ins. With ideas from fellow forum members, I not only made a sign for her 1973, but for my 2002 as well:

Looks like I need to update it :leaving:
the frame is black, and the background white (though my digital camera did a poor job of showing this) . The frame is 20h by 16w.
My local Office Depot charges $1.78 per 11x17 full color print; so I made a top and bottom 11x17 panel via MS-Word (landscape orientation). Then took the saved files to Office Depot for printing. Placing the lower finished "panel" below the top panel; this ended up being 22hx17w. So a little triming was needed to make it fit a 20-16 frame.
for the two (landscaped) 11x17 printouts ($3.56 total ) and a frame with black edges ($9.95)... I have a total of $14.50 + tax invested.
My digital camera doesn't give the printing its due justice. Was very surprised how well the 'Depots color laser printers output was.
For the 1973 poster/sign, the top panel is all text and the bottom panel is two scans of the Corvette Enthusiast Magazine pages that featured her car. The frame has chrome edges; though it doesn't show up well in the pic.

I remember her first car show with this sign got a lot of looks and comments. As I watched, everyone that walked by took time to read the sign; then a few walked up to her afterwards and asked more questions. Her car had never received this much attention in the past without the sign.
I guess I now need to make one for her 2003 AE Vert; though it's 100% stock; and Yvonne plans on keeping it that way.
roadrage1 08-28-2008, 05:46 PM Cool sign Mike! I agree, signs peek car show interest, and is a great conversation starter. Welcome to SV!

SV is the worlds best-kept secret. Well; maybe not now - due to the exposure during Corvettes @ Carlisle.
DChamp 08-29-2008, 02:56 AM Great job Mike!
How'd you get the exact "birth date" of the 2002 Vette?
Where'd you get the graphics?
Mike Mercury 08-29-2008, 04:25 AM How'd you get the exact "birth date" of the 2002 Vette?
that one was easy; I was at the factory watching it be built :)
Where'd you get the graphics?
there's only two graphic images I can think of; one is the C5 emblem. There's some decent ones on the internet.
The Chevy "flag" symbol is an insert somebody makes. I found a pic of it on a web page.
When I get time this weekend, I will upload them to my web storage space and link to them.
DChamp 08-29-2008, 04:35 AM So.... Mike Mercury's real name is Tim? *chuckling*
And you're a HAM?
N1GUF here....
Mike Mercury 08-29-2008, 05:24 AM and you're a HAM ?
yes; both Yvonne and I are. But we're anti-social hams.
:)
here's my Corvette Ham Radio page:
