Whats a good buffer to use? I currently using a 3/8" drill and would like to get a new buffer that will do a better job, more RPM's.

What is a good brand and if you have the part # or where I can purchase. Thanks

Check back a page or two... I know there's at least a couple of threads dealing with this issue!

Hey MoJo,
Where in Texas are you? If you would like to come test 4 different brands, I would be more than happy to go over them with you! You can go with a Porter Cable, Ultimate Detailing Machine, Flex Machine, or we even have the Hitachi Rotary. Most of my clients prefer the Ultimate Detailing machine because of the pattern and the power it has.

I use the Porter Cable 7424. The Detail Dude has that one along with others. I highly recommend dual action polishers because of their forgivingness of a novice or beginner user. A lot of "experienced" guys will tell you that a PC-7424 is not powerful enough to do professional work. I present to you this:

Wet-sanding my my rear quarter-panel and top of the door:

Buffed out with my PC:

Scratch removal with my PC and Meguiar's Swirl and Scratch Remover (there is no polish on the car in this picture).

I have a collection of videos of me using the PC-7424. You can check them out here (http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105829) and here (http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102281). I highly recommend this buffer. With the PC, it's not about speed, it's about safety. More powerful rotary buffers will cut the work time in half. They will also wipe the paint off your car in a moment of concentration lapse. Working on my car is therapy for me. I don't care how long it takes as I enjoy the time. It's like hanging out with my best friend.

I have a Porter Cable 7424, Flex XC 3401 Random Orbital and both Metabo and Hitachi rotories. I have also used my brothers UDM. I would say if you don't have roatary experience the Flex XC 3401 is the best polisher hands down. It is more expensive then the PC 7424, UDM or Mequiars but well worth the additonal money IMO. It gives you almost as much power as a rotary with having to worry about burning your paint. It does a great job and in a lot less time then the PC 7424 and others.

Here's a pics after polishing my Viper with the Flex and Menzerna Micro Polish BEFORE applying any wax or paint sealant.
