Broke the rear end in my C6 this weekend, it looks like on the right side, but I can't tell yet since it just looks like a mess down there to me. But she is a sitting duck right now after the tow home on Saturday.
I was going for maximal acceleration from a stop, 2200 rpm on the stock runflats with a quick clutch release (not a sidestep, but fairly quick). As I engaged the throttle I heard a metallic "tink" and the revs shot up to 6500 rpm instantly but the car never moved.
Lot's of fluid leaked out from the diff area but there weren't any broken parts on the ground. I bet this is going to be fairly expensive to fix. I must say I'm surprised to have broken it so easily as I've been easier on my C6 than any of my previous cars, particularly on launches. I used to be pretty bad on dump-clutch launches in my heavily modded 944T but never broke anything more than a half-shaft gear housing with that car, and it accelerated as quick (at least) as my C6 w/Z51, catback and halltech airfilter replacement.
Is this fairly common for the C6? Thanks....:(

It is more comon with the 2005 C6. The housing unfortunatly is weak and that is why alot of guys that have an 05 tend to go through DTE for a new stronger diff!

Still covered under warranty??
Now it should be.....but I do have a SC!! So my worry is that they are going to make a fuss about it and blame it on the SC!!:( I will find out this week!

If you didnt have the supercharger it probably would not have been a problem under warranty but now it might be!!! Let us know what they say. I am having problems with the rear on mine. It was leaking and when I took it in they said the drain plug was leaking and that it was stripped out. This is interesting to me considering the fact that it has never been removed...so it was stripped at the factory!

WOW:eek: That is disturbing that it most likely happened at the factory. Someones torque #'s were off a bit!! As for the gentleman with the broken rear, keep us all posted as this could be very informational for alot of guys!

This is why I am kind of scared of going to "crazy" with the mods because your waranty goes out the window and fixing these cars aren't the cheapest.

ok, it was the short output drive shaft and surprisingly my waranty covered it!!:D :D :D You don't know how happy I am, and they said that it should be fixed in a couple weeks!!
