One of the mechanics that works with me says I need to get the Distributor Ignition System replaced in my 93 corvette. How much is this going to cost me? I guess its takes a lot of time to replace. The mechanic I work with says he will do it if I pay him labor but he has never done it before and he does not work on cars often. Should I take it in and have it replaced?
Has anyone had this done? How much is it going to cost?

If the opti distributor gets replaced---it will likely be recommended that you replace the water pump also (it has to come off in the operation) it also may be time for plug wires--spark plugs--serp belt & maybe the tensioner and/or idler for the belt--you may not need all of this --that's up to the tech and what you decide--depending on which brand of opti you go with and hourly labor rates vary from state to state/area to area ( not trying to be brutal here)--I'd guess anywhere from $1000 to $2000---If you can find a tech who is competent/capable you can save a bunch having it done on the side and not through a dealer/shop---it is a pricey repair.-- Hmmm may even be worth getting a second opinion. What is your car doing that makes the tech feel it needs a distributor ?

here's some info that would have been useful when you started this thread--I didn't see anything in your profile so I looked at the threads you had started---I seriously doubt with less then 30K on the odometer that the opti is bad--unless the Vette was stored under water---water/moisture and mileage are usually the optis enemy---just me but I would look a little closer at where the mice had chewed--possibly somewhere no one has seen yet. Also I would highly recommend finding a auto tech with Vette experience and the 2nd generation LT1!!

The mice chewed completely through 2 of the spark plug wires. One of the cylinders is not working. I replaced all the spark plug wires and its still not working properly. I also replaced the spark plug that was not working. It was wet when I replaced it. The mechanic that I am talking to says I need to have the water pump and the distributer replaced. He didn't really look at it but his reasoning was that because it was run wile the cylinders were not working the distributer got overloaded with electricity and fried.

He says the distributer costs around 500 and the water pump around 300

Hello
If mice got your plug wire check your fuel injector wiring harness on the intake, For some reason mice love to eat these wires, Before you spend lots of money take a look.

It looks good. And when I took the plug out, it was wet. So it must be working.
You guys know where I can get a distributer for the best price online?
