: Snobby Vette owners?

Are there really that many out there? There seems to be a stereotype for Vette owners that we are all stuck up. I don't know why we would have the lable on us but sometimes when someone sees me getting out of my Corvette you can almost tell that they are thinking that! What are some of your opinions on this?

Yes Vette Owners Are Unnecessarly Snobish For Two Reasons I've Noticed..... 1) The Snobs Are Looking For The Attention And Respect They Believe A Corvette Will Give Them ( Perhaps Because They Need A Life !! ) And I've Also Noticed C6 Owners Are Snobish Towards C5 Owners ( Myself )........ Remember One Thing All U C6 Snobs , Most C5 Owners Had A Corvette Before U !!!!!!

Yeah....gotta agree with you on the C6 issue. Not all of 'em, but some.
Is it being a snob, when you go to a car show and you notice the Vette guys are pretty much just hanging with each other and taking pictures of just the corvettes?
Not trying to be. But I do notice where ever I go, people stare. Kinda creeps you out for a while.
Can't complain....I wanted Red!

People will always have problems with what goes on in there head when they think of somebody else because of what they have.
But Corvettes are to be enjoyed and loved, not being loved because you have one no matter what year.
Save The Wave. :driving:

I have noticed that also to a point. Usually if I meet another vette on the road while I'm driving mine they usually wave but then again if I'm in my trans am about 50% of them will wave and the rest will not. A while back on the other corvette forum I once read a post from a guy that said "people that buy f bodys are the people that can't afford a real car, a vette". Well I have both and still can't say what car is the better of the two. They both are a blast to drive and both are treated equally.

Vette owners get that rep for a reason. Corvette owners have a tendency to consider their cars more of an exotic than they are. They also consider themselves above the man who does not own a corvette. All it takes is a career to own one. And quite a few people make enough money to buy one but choose not too due to other obligations. I rarely even drive mine because it has two seats when I need to carry 4.

:iagree: I have had my vette for a year now and so far all other vette owners have been super nice to me. The wife and I were in town last night when a young kid in a new mustang pulled up next to us and honked. He hollered out hey I like your car, but there is one thing wrong with it, you have a taillight burned out. Then he commented on what a nice vette it was again and drove off. I kept waiting on him to have a smart *** remark.

It was not like this back in the 1970s as those of us who owned a Corvette raced them every weekend but the GM mindset for the C5 was to market the car to women and those who cannot use a clutch.
One of the C5 mandates was to get rid of the frame rails C4 had so that women could get in/out a C5 with a dress on and not give any money shots.

Starting with C5 America's sports car has been treated like a barbie/ken doll and more shiny crap on the car then a low rider in LA Ca where weekends are caravans in the right lane and carshows where the owners claim there are racers when any track I go to there is less then 3 or 4 other vettes even there.
You know when you see someone pay $100 plus for wax that vette ownership has turned BLING.

You know when you see a engine bay so shiny that with hood open there is burn marks from sun reflecting back and the phony carbonfiber plastered inside the car.

I even saw a C6 Z06 that had the whole hatch area covered in speakers where owner told me he spent $5,000 on music junk adding maybe 80 lbs to the car

The C5 was the highest performing corvette ever built. The Z06 didnt have an option to come with anything but a clutch. Believe me, most women dont care about Corvettes for themselves. They want a little more luxury.

I've done the car show thing for about 25 years now, on and off, mostly off lately. Seems likea lot of snobs for whatever kind of car/truck/bike/bus/blimp, whatever. I decided , screw it I'm doin what I want with MY car and if they don't like it tough. Some of them do things to their cars that I wouldn't do to mine, but I can still appreciate their hard work. If it is in fact hard work. I can not , however, appreciate just throwing money at something just to be doing it or to be different. BUT, I will never knock anyone's ride!

I've noticed that some Vette owners don't share "the wave" when you see another Vette. Growing up my Dad had a '78 Pacecar and i vividly remember him giving "the thumbs up" to every Vette we saw on the road. It was WAY cool. Later on, in the 80's my buddy and I came home from basketball practice and my Dad was working on his Vette. He was all excited to show us his new invention. He rigged up a toggle switch under the dash that would lower the driver's side pop up head light so he could "wink" at other corvette owners while cruising down the road.
I can't help but wonder if the people that dont wave to other Vettes are just some under-educated (in Corvette's) yuppies that don't know or don't care....but Check this out!> Last week while driving home from work I rolled up next to another C5 and gave a thumbs up to the other Vette driver....well, it was a lady in her 50's that was smoking a cigarete WITH THE WINDOWS UP!!! You could barely see her due to all the smoke inside the cockpit!--she looked at me as if I was crazy! I couldn't believe it.

I've noticed a decline in the Corvette "wave" also. I've owned Corvettes for 6 years now and it seems that not as many people wave anymore. I realize that since I am a female driver that could make a difference because I have noticed that most of the time, male driver's usually don't wave to me if they have a female passenger. I can understand that! I wave to other vettes no matter what.....it's a matter of pride!

Remember One Thing All U C6 Snobs , Most C5 Owners Had A Corvette Before U !!!!!!

lol...very true. Imagine pulling up with a flat black C5, slammed to the ground, cam'in like its going to eat their first born child......I get $h*t from C6 owners, C5 Owners, and C4 owners.

They look at the car like it's a freak of nature and they really don't know what to think about it...lol

However, when C6 and C6Z owners see me on the road they try and "rev" me, then they take off. When they are (more times than not) left in the dust (Nitrous rules!), they then give me the ole wave with a very curious look in their eyes,...of course after they catch up. Quite the fun game.

Most of em just don't flat out know about the "wave" yet and some didn't see you in time. I know I've given some late ones... I wave at every Vette I see and give a thumb to any ride that's bee tastfully modded, especially the old school muscke cars!

See I'm coming from the Jeep family where we all wave at each other. At least the cool ones do. When I got "Bertha" my girlfriend told me it was a law that you must wave at other wrangler owners.

When my husband bought his C5 he told me anytime I was driving "Baby" I was to wave at any Vette I saw on the road. If I see you in a parking lot or at a car show I complement you on your ride. That is just what I do.

Yes I have a C6 now and I still wave at any other Vette I see on the road. We are a family that is how I look at it. Unfortunately there are some Vette owners who give the majority of us a bad name.

A case in point. Yesterday the hubby and I were driving the C5 to town and we saw a C6 coming out of the subdivision so we followed them to inform them about the Vette Club we are starting. A Jeep got between us and them at the stop light. The C6 stopped while the light was still yellow not running a notorious fast light turning to red. You would have thought that He had committed murder the way the Jeep driver was yelling at him calling him a "f**ing Vette" . We could hear him yelling cause we had the top off. Hubby and I both agreed that we would go to the other vettes defence if the guy got out of the Jeep. As he passed he Vette he was yelling and giving the bird. We pulled into the gas station after the C6 invited them to join the club and let them know we had their back if the Jeep had been really stupid. I don't know what Vette driver had enraged him or what had been done to him but it sure left its mark on how he views Vetts.

I would guess it is like any gather groups of people, whether it be Vette owners, Cobra owners, Masonic lodges, the Lesbian groups, there will always be that few that make it worse for the majority of people in their organizations or groups. I have seen one or two, not very many though considering how many I do know or have met, I have been in a Corvette for about 7 years, and have not know more then one ot two, so out of many hundreds that I have met if not close to a thousand it is very few....
