I have a 1998 vette. It started a strange habit of when I put the car in gear (automatic) it dies when I press on the accelerator. It only usually does this during the dreaded "Service coulmn lock" Any ideas on the problem?

Due to BS claims that the steering wheel could lock while car is in motion GM set a PCM rule in the software that if it assume CL errors trip that the PCM allows a maximun speed of 1.5 MPH but commanding almost no injector pulse width ON time

When I tune PCMs, I turn OFF CL altogether and set that 1.5 MPH to a higher speed.

the column lock code didn't come on at all during this little problem. It just kept dying as a tried to accelerate. Is this still part of the ECM column lock problem? Took about 6 tries to get it going.

So when the CL does actually lock up (I've seen and heard of it happening )the wheel will be locked up but now the power isn't cut...

Great idea genius.

Interseting even the feds say that not ONE vette has been proven to have locked while in motion and thousands of vettes that have not even had the CL recall done have not locked while in motion.

Sounds like you spend more time with your fingers in your body then the plain facts of life,

The chances of wheel locking in motion is nil yet you prefer that even when the CL recalls were done GM STILL forces only 1.5 MPH max speed if just the DTC trips even when CL is not faulty and can do so just if battery voltage is low on startup and some dude is stuck out in the boonies at .5 MPH because you have a heart-on.

Some basics, for A4 trannie vettes GM recall canned the CL since the shifter is still locking thus NO CL yet 1.5 MPH trigger is still functional :(

I would ONLY do that mod if the owner has the Colum Lock Bypass kit - not the K harness - and had the recall repair performed at some time.

And stop sniffing my **** vapors it's messing you up dude...

Play nice you guys!! That is one of the cool things about this site is that this kind of stuff is very rare unlike the other sites where you have people at each others throats!! I am not experts like the both of you are, but if I am asking a question, I know that there will be a handful of answers and from them I will read the responses and decide from there, I just want answers, don't want to read arguing.
I have actually learned alot from both of you guys! You both know your stuff that is for sure and you no doubt have a few differences of opinions but who doesn't!! Anyways, keep posting your knowledge you guys, because I know I'm not the only one who has benefited! Thanks to you both!
