: Take lots of cash....when traveling to Australia
roadrage1 07-27-2008, 09:09 AM Hotels in Brisbane were running from $275.00 to $325.00 depending on view of the bay! Food prices very expensive also, even McD's was $7.50 for Sandwich combos.
Exchange rate is pretty much one for one.

$7.50? Damn, do they have the same menu as we do? I know in other countries McD's has different menu and older packaging than we do.
roadrage1 07-27-2008, 11:45 AM Yeah, menu was pretty close. They had a few extra local food items.
Subway was also similar, although, no $5.00 footlongs, $8.99 more like it.
Coming back thru Hawaii, McD's had some SPAM items, lol.
Burger King was not called BK, was Happy Jacks or Outback Jacks, can't remember. Their govt and the whole King/Queen thing.
torsionalpower 07-28-2008, 09:19 AM That is pricey indeed, but I assume it is still fun though. I would love to go!

I've always wanted to go there, how long where you over there for? Did you do any of the touristy stuff?
excorcist 07-28-2008, 11:15 AM I will be going to Sydney at the end of the year! I can't wait, by the way this section of the site is pretty nice, being able to have these types of threads is a nice change up.

I had 40 hrs off, the Pope had just left day prior. No wheels, so not really. My 4th time there, did the Croc farm before, pretty awsome.
Also Australia zoo, and river cavern cruise, both worth the money.
torsionalpower 08-06-2008, 07:25 AM I actually am planning on going there this winter, so this is great to know!
devereaux 04-02-2010, 10:38 AM I was there in '70 - on R&R. Went to Sydney and had a fabulous time. I kept being surprised that none of the people ACTED like the British, even though they had an accent sort of like the British. Bought some nice Nikon lenses. Nothing is going to be the same today - too much time for things to change.

Me, too. Horseback riding, harbor cruise, booze flowed like water, hooked up, met some Aussie sailors and they invited me to a Ships Ball (H.M.S. Perth) at the Menzes Hotel. The ship's purser set me up with his wife's sister. She wasn't a Playboy centerfold but she was soft in the right places, shaped well and felt real nice to cuddle up to. We danced half the night. If the purser's wife had known what we did for the other half of the night she would have arranged to have me keelhauled.
