Just bought a 68 coupe that has a VIN from a 68 convertible. It matches the block and does not appear to have been tampered with. I've heard stories that the early production of 68 coupes was delayed due to design problems with the targa tops (T-top) and that the first 4000 or 6000 were only convertibles.

I've heard that some of the first coupes were given convertible VIN's and I was wondering if anyone else had heard the same. Or, can anyone point me in the right direction to do some research on this?

Thanks,
Paul

Gerry,

Thanks, is the lip on the outside (can be seen with the lights down) or on the inside (lights need to be up).

Also, is your VIN for a convertible, but on the coupe? If it is, have you had any luck getting documentation on it?
